Northrend Zones

Northrend Zones

In World of Warcraft’s Wrath of the Lich King, there will be several new zones added for your game playing satisfaction. The game creators have worked diligently at creating a more “user friendly” access when it comes to entering certain areas within each zone. Currently, there is quite a bit of information available regarding these particular areas. In this guide, I will introduce you to the new zones in World of Warcraft’s Wrath of the Lich King!

Storm Peaks

This is an area that is relatively mountainous in nature. You can find this area in Northrend, on the northeast side. It is said that this particular area is relatively harsh as far as weather is concerned as it consists of cold, violent winds and ice. If you are interested in encountering one of the new beasts in Wrath of the Lich King called “Storm Giants”, this is the place to be. There are many dangers that await you in this new zone. Steep cliffs, bright sunlight reflecting off of the ice, torturous winds, and strong, vicious monsters are just some of these dangers.

Dalaran

Known as the “Magical Nation”, Dalaran can be found just south of Lordamere Lake. It is not uncommon for the area to appear misty as it is in an environment that is known for low pressure. The air, naturally, is relatively cool and often described as “damp”. There are many secrets contained within the city, and it is very difficult to uncover any amount of the mystery that surrounds the area. You will stumble upon a dome that is magical and mysterious in nature, and many empty paths. You will find a number of troops there, due to the fact that it is important that the city does not fall to the control of the Scourge. This is considered to be the area that is farthest north in Northrend.

Icecrown Glacier

The ever-popular Icecrown Glacier is located in the area that is referred to as “Icecrown”. As you may have guessed, this is a frozen glacier that rests in the central area of Northrend, slightly to the north. It is important to note that this is a seriously dangerous location. This is where the ominous Lich King is stationed. It is also believed to be the center of power that he holds. Scourge are just roaming everywhere on this particular glacier in Northrend. You can find the ever-popular Icecrown Citadel located here. This is nothing more than a dead, wasteland that is composed of ice and the undead.

Lake Wintergrasp

In Lake Wintergrasp, all you will find is an immense lake that has turned to solid ice. If you happen to indulge yourself in the endeavor of going beneath the surface of the ice, you will find water. However, it is believed that the waters that flow beneath the ice stop at nothing to retrieve the heart of the person, or creature that it comes in contact with. You can find this mysterious lake on the area that is south of Wintergrasp.

Borean Tundra

You can find the Borean Tundra in Northrend, on the west side of the continent. Here, you will find several frightening creatures. The Undead Scourge and the Blue Dragons reside here. In addition to this, you have the Tuskarr, Naga, and the Trolls that are Drakkari. On the most part, this area is simply ice, but you may stumble upon an unfriendly camp or beast on your journeys in the Borean Tundra. In the east area of this particular zone, you will find small traces of forests. This area is also for both the Alliance and the Horde as well.

Dragonblight

Dragonblight is a mysterious, yet ominous area in Northrend. This is the resting place of Dragons, when their lives end. The ever-popular plague that initially struck down the humans started in this particular zone. It is a sad and desolate location where the massive and mythical Dragons come to meet their fate, once they have accepted it. Surrounded by forests that are large and dense, this is another vast wasteland of ice and snow. There are many different legends and rumors of the magic that surrounds this particular zone in World of Warcraft’s Wrath of the Lich King.

Howling Fjord

You can find this particular zone in the continent of Northrend, on the south side towards the east. This is where you can find the popular Utgarde Keep, as well as several animals, such as Frost Wolves, Nerubians, Wendigos, Iron Dwarves, and Murlocs, just to name a few. There is a base here for both Horde, as well as Alliance.

Grizzly Hills

This too is located in the area of Northrend, in the south, and towards the east side of the continent. Grizzlemaws, Scourge, and Thor Modan can be discovered in this particular zone. This is an immense forest of evergreens that are ever covered in snow. There is no summer, spring, or fall in Grizzly Falls – it is always winter. Fortunately, this is more of a tropic area compared to the other zones for the simple fact that it is not completely covered in ice and snow – there are still traces of life, and “green” in this area of World of Warcraft’s Wrath of the Lich King.

Sholazar Basin

This is actually an area that is considered to be both a jungle, and tropical in nature. It is located in Northrend and can be found near Icecrown Glacier…so, it is really odd that is has such a tropical basis when it is surrounded by wastelands of ice. There are vents that emit hot, dangerous steam and even potent geysers in this particular area. Here, it is unlikely that you will see any Scourge as the natives work terribly hard to protect the area. This leads to the question…is the Lich King causing the ice over Northrend because he is so evil, and will it eventually go away if he is conquered?

Crystalsong Forest

This is an amazing zone in Wrath of the Lich King. This is because it is a forest that is composed entirely of crystal! Even the ground is composed of this substance! These are magical crystals in that they sing, and create beautiful songs for all who enter to experience. It is believed that old, ancient type magic is responsible for this particular area. There is a “Great Tree” in the forest that is heavily protected and cherished. You can find the Green Dragons here. In addition to this, it is not unusual to discover Crystal Golems and even Storm Giants!

Zul’Drak

This is considered to be a winter filled countryside that hosts a number of creatures in the continent of Northrend. Here, you will find Ice Trolls that are Drakkari, and the king that acts as the master of the Trolls, named Malakk. It is extremely cold, and considered to be populated in a dense fashion. This area is particular good for parties and guilds that are looking to attack together. The lone traveler will not fare very well in this particular zone in Wrath of the Lich King.

Here, you have been introduced to the new zones of World of Warcraft’s Wrath of the Lich King. If you are looking for something new, or want to power up that new Death Knight, these areas are just right for you!
